Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was happy with their 3-1 win against Hellas Verona.
The result keeps their Europa League qualifying hopes alive.
“I truly thank the lads, because having 61 points is an extraordinary result for what was an unusual season,” Gasperini told DAZN.
“This team has always troubled the big clubs, we held out against them and qualifying for Europe this time would give it superior value to the other seasons.
“I thought the expectations were exaggerated and reaching the Europa League would be a huge achievement. I do miss the European fixtures, but I don’t know if we’d have been in a condition to handle them this year. Playing in Europe helps you to develop and realise the level you need to reach.”
Rasmus Hojlund was again on the scoresheet.
Gasperini added, “Hojlund has all the necessary qualities to make his mark. We had to get to know him better to begin with, but he always had this great desire to prove himself. He also did well on international duty and scored three goals with Denmark.
“Today’s goal shows his quality and power. Let’s not forget he was born in 2003, he’s 20 years old and must accept his moment, but I am sure he’ll mature both on a football level and as a man.”
