Nottingham boss Cooper delighted with victory over Brighton: We must build momentum

Nottingham boss Steve Cooper was delighted after their 3-1 win against Brighton.

Facundo Buonanotte had Brighton ahead before a Pascal Gross own goal was followed by a strike from Danilo and a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty.

Forest are now out of the bottom three and Cooper said: “The difference it will make? We’ll see. But we hope that the positivity that the game will give us we can use moving forward. We’ve got to make that happen.

“Respect to Brighton and the way they play, they test you tactically and, with that in mind, I’ve got so much gratitude for the players for really committing the plan we put in place.

“Even when we went 1-0 down we asked them to stick to the plan because we were creating chances. We missed a penalty, had a one v one and it came from the plan – and that included the defending we had to do as well.

“We were never going to get into a have a competition of passes and possession with Brighton. But in terms of creating real chances, that’s what we wanted to do and that’s what we did.

“It’s an important win and that’s the most important thing tonight: the win. But we’ve got to take whatever was good from the game into the next one.

“What’s important is the chances you create. We’ve had games this year where we’ve had lots of possession and games we haven’t -0 it hasn’t guaranteed any result. For a team like us you have to go into a game thinking ‘what is it going to take to win?’

“We looked really dangerous today in attack. Even when Neco [Williams] got the unfortunate bang, we was about to put the ball in the back of the net.

“I’ve got so much respect for Brighton and what they do but, in terms of plan v plan, I’m glad we stuck to ours and won.”
