Bournemouth boss O’Neil: Tavernier fitness key to Prem survival

Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil admits the fitness of Marcus Tavernier will be key to their Premier League survival.

The winger struck in victory over Fulham on Saturday.

Ahead of meeting Brighton tomorrow, O’Neil said: “As always, I’ll be advised and follow the advice of the experts of how much and when, we’ll try and make sure that this time he’s back, he stays back.

“Obviously last time, we had him back for one substitute appearance and one start and we lost him again, so it is important to manage the load, pick up on things before they become too serious and try to keep the squad in a place where everyone is available.

“You saw the impact he can have, so it’s important to try and keep him fit. He’s a great lad, has quality, has physical attributes and an incredible attitude, wants to work to improve and he’s got a real chance of constantly getting better.”

Quizzed about the rash of Premier League sackings, O’Neil also said today: “I understand the nature of the job, just because others are losing theirs, doesn’t mean I worry for mine.

“I accept that if you don’t do well, then you are at risk of loosing your job.

“It’s the nature of being a football manager and I accept that, so until then I will continue to do my job.”
