Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi (22) will stay at Bayer Leverkusen for the remainder of the season after the Premier League side decided to let the recall clause expire.
“We assumed that Callum would stay, but now we also have the certainty that he will stay with us,” Simon Rolfes told Bild. “We’re happy about that, because he’s a very important player for us.”
There had been some uncertainty regarding the future of Hudson-Odoi, with an early return to Chelsea a possibility following the appointment of Graham Potter, who replaced Thomas Tuchel.
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan, Hudson-Odoi has two goal contributions (1 goal, 1 assist) for Die Werkself in 15 games across all competitions. Speaking in early November, B04 head coach Xabi Alonso stated that he wants more from Hudson-Odoi and that he must take more risks in the final third.
Hudson-Odoi has three caps for England, all before his 21st birthday, but could have represented Ghana at the World Cup after Otto Addo tried persuading the youngster, who has Ghanaian parents, to represent the African nation. However, the 22-year-old wants focus on B04 and hopes for a return to the England national team.
