At the end of the season Borussia Mönchengladbach face the prospect of losing several key players as their contracts are up. Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Yann Sommer will all be available on free transfers at the end of the season but more importantly they are able to speak to clubs in January.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Roland Virkus, the Gladbach sporting director said: “We are in talks with the players. I can’t say right now whether these players will still play here after the winter or in the coming season. We’re working on keeping them here, but that’s not entirely up to me.”
Yann Sommer is the closest of the three to signing a new contract with the die Fohlen. Thuram and Bensebaini both have been linked with departures over the last couple of years so it is slightly more complicated. Other players at the club close to renewing their contracts are Christoph Kramer and Lars Stindl.
Both Thuram and Bensebaini have been in good form in the first half of the season. Thuram has 10 goals in the Bundesliga and his performances saw him called up to the France squad for the World Cup. Bensebaini has also considerably improved since last season with five goals in the league, which has resulted in Luca Netz considering loan options.
