Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart says he’d take winning tonight’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan over the El Clasico.
Barca meet Real Madrid this weekend after facing Inter tonight.
Gaspart told Radio Marca: “Tomorrow we have to win and if it can be, with a difference of two goals. It may be the case that we can arrive tied with Inter in second place, the particular goal average is important.
“If we play like on Sunday it will be more difficult. If we play like we did at the beginning of the season, it will be easier. Let’s see if we have Barça at the beginning of the season with enthusiasm, efficiency and goals. I don’t think about Sunday yet, I think about tomorrow. Because if we lose it would be almost impossible (to qualify). Morally it would be a blow. I’m sure of the players and the fans.
“Sunday’s game has a great future even if we lose, because Madrid has to come to Barça, there is a lot of La Liga ahead. Tomorrow is yes … If we don’t win by that 2-0 margin, we’ll have the Champions League practically lost. I prefer to win 2-0 tomorrow and lose the Clásico, although I feel very bad about it.”
Gaspart also spoke of the potential return of Lionel Messi next summer from PSG.
He said: “I would be excited for Messi to return to the club, but as a player it is very difficult. The years go by, he has a contract and he is worth what he is worth. I contemplate that he can return as an ambassador or as he wants.
“I wish with all my heart that Leo returns to Barcelona with his family, enjoy the city. Messi is a product, in quotes, very culé who would be a huge ambassador.”
