Time is seemingly running out for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara as Rafael Leão is closing on his contract expiry at the Rossoneri.
According to what is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan will require a sum of around €65 million to extend the contract of Rafael Leão. The forward’s current terms for the San Siro faithful will expire in June 2024.
The report understands that Leão has asked for an annual salary of around €7 million in his new contract, while Milan are hopeful of reaching an agreement at €6 million per season.
Nevertheless, the stumbling block in the deal appears to be the €19 million that the player will have to pay to Sporting as a result of the unilateral termination of his contract with the Portuguese side in 2018.
On top of the €45-€50 million, the benefits of the Growth Decree will also require Milan to add another €15 million to the equation, bringing the total amount closer to the €65 million mark.
There is no shortage of suitors in the market for the 23-year-old attacker. And the expectation is that his stock will only rise after the World Cup, with Manchester City and Chelsea keeping tabs on the situation. Then, it would be difficult for Milan to keep hold of the winger. If they were to sell Leão, it would take an offer of around €120 million to tempt the Rossoneri management.
