Borussia Dortmund comfortably beat Copenhagen in their Champions League opener on Tuesday evening. Marco Reus opened the scoring, capping off an excellent move before Raphaël Guerreiro doubled BVB’s lead. Jude Bellingham added a third for Die Schwarzgelben, who played in front of a full to capacity Yellow Wall in the Champions League after UEFA allowed standing terraces in European competitions.
Alexander Meyer, 7 – Playing in the 2. Bundesliga for Jahn Regensburg last season, Meyer impressed in the absence of Gregor Kobel, who could be sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Thomas Meunier, 7 – Did well at keeping the width and progressing as Julian Brandt drifted inside. Always provided an option on the right. Not tested defensively.
Niklas Süle, 8 – Played his role in Borussia Dortmund’s opening goal. Looked assured alongside Nico Schlotterbeck and will certainly prove an asset. Has slotted himself into the team seamlessly following an injury during BVB’s DFB Pokal win against 1860 Munich back in July.
Nico Schlotterbeck, 7 – A comfortable performance for the Germany international, who stepped up and intercepted the ball to initiate the move for Borussia Dortmund’s third of the evening. A Champions League debut and a new partner in central-defence tonight, Schlotterbeck impressed.
Raphaël Guerreiro, 9 – Arguably one of Borussia Dortmund’s most improved players this season. Scored BVB’s second.
Salih Özcan, 6 – A rather quiet game, but did his job and allowed Bellingham to shine.
Jude Bellingham, 8 – 97 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund and just 19. Dominant in midfield this evening, put himself around the pitch and scored BVB’s third, capping off a beautifully worked goal.
Julian Brandt, 9 – For someone who received a lot of criticism last season, Julian Brandt has been excellent this season. For the second game running, assisted Reus. Missed a couple of chances towards the end but always looked like creating something when on the ball.
Marco Reus, 8 – The 33-year-old scored his 22nd goal for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Opened the scoring and proved problematic for Copenhagen throughout.
Thorgan Hazard, N/A – Subbed off with an injury after 22 minutes.
Anthony Modeste, 6 – A rather quiet game for the Frenchman, who never gave up.
