Fiorentina coach Italiano delighted with victory over Cremonese; happy with Jovic performance

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano was delighted after their opening day victory over Cremonese.

The Viola won a thriller 3-2, with Rolando Mandragora scoring a 95th minute winner.

Italiano later said: “I am very happy, starting with a victory was our goal. Starting the championship with three points is never easy. It is obvious that we also had to keep some players fresh and polished for Thursday in terms of the Europa Conference.

“In the second half we could have done more, because last year we made better use of our numerical superiority.”

On Luka Jovic, he continued: “Very well in the first half, I preferred to keep him on the pitch to continue giving him minutes and to improve his physical condition not yet at 100%. I’m happy, a striker has to score, he worked very well tying the game even in the first half.

“In the first half we were perfect apart from the cross and the goal we conceded. But we created the conditions to score another 4 or 5. In retreat we were always good at limiting the dangers, the second half we didn’t have to let our guard down.

“When we lower the pace we become normal. We had situations to close the game, even their goalkeeper made incredible saves. However I’m happy, in terms of quality we did very well.”
