Spain defeat Switzerland in Nations League

Spain defeated Switzerland 1-0 in last night’s Nations League clash.

Pablo Sarabia scored the only goal of the game in the first half, earning three points after Spain had drawn their first two games against Portugal and the Czech Republic.

Spain started well, pressing intensely after Luis Enrique severely criticised their press in their last outing against the Czech Republic.

This led to the opening goal in the 13th minute, as La Roja won the ball back high up the pitch, with Marcos Llorente crossing for Sarabia to turn in and with the goal standing after a lengthy VAR check for a possible offside.

Breel Embolo looked dangerous for Switzerland on a couple of occasions, but Spain remained in control and Gavi put on a master class, regularly carrying the ball into the opposition half with his dribbling.

Luis Enrique’s side have five points from their opening three games following draws with Portugal and Czech Republic.

Portugal, who beat Czech Republic 2-0 on Thursday, top the group with seven points, while the Czechs have four points and Switzerland are yet to get off the mark.
