Ronaldo wins Manchester United Player of the Year award

Cristiano Ronaldo has been awarded the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season at Manchester United.

Following his return to Manchester last year, the Portuguese attacker had a spectacular individual campaign, with United supporters publicly recognizing his contributions.

Ronaldo, 37, scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for United in all competitions, including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo has now won the award four times, most recently in the 2003/04, 2006/07, and 2007/08 seasons.

Since the award was originally given to Brian McClair in 1988, Ronaldo is currently tied with goalkeeper David de Gea as the most successful player in the award’s history.

After the club announced a three-man shortlist earlier in the week, the 37-year-old beat out both De Gea and Fred to win the prize. De Gea came in second, followed by Fred.

De Gea was voted United’s Players’ Player of the Year on Friday following a remarkable season in which he made vital saves in a number of crucial times.

Alvaro Fernandez was voted U23 Player of the Year earlier this month, while Alejandro Garnacho was chosen U18 Player of the Year.
