Mikel Arteta hails Southgate for helping Saka

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hailed England boss Gareth Southgate for helping Bukayo Saka overcome his penalty miss in Euro 2020.

Saka has been an important player for Arsenal this season as they aim to qualify for the Champions League despite having a tough summer where he was racially abused for missing a penalty that denied his nation a chance to lift the Euros.

Saka along with Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford missed their kicks in the penalty shootout and Arteta hailed Southgate for helping the youngster cope with his International disappointment.

“I must say that Gareth Southgate was really helpful as well because he had him in his hands and they were really caring and supportive. He was in a good place. He got support, love, and help in any way he needed to overcome. Then it was down to him and his family around him,” Arteta told the press.

Saka will be hoping that he can banish the Euros memories this summer with England set to be among the favorites at November’s World Cup in Qatar.

Arsenal will be up against European chasing West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday and Arteta will be depending on Saka and co to help him maintain their position on the table.
