This was supposed to be Borussia Dortmund’s big day. Against a top four arrival and in front of a full capacity stadium, surely it was three points coming Dortmund’s way? However, their defence looked at sea for large parts of the game and they failed to create much in front of goal. Despite having less possession, Leipzig were clinical and pounced on BVB’s school boy mistakes.

Emre Can, 4 – Can capped off what was an awful day for Dortmund. The defender set the tone when he carelessly gave the ball away for Leipzig’s first. It never really got better from there for Can.

Axel Witsel, 5 – Witsel went missing tonight like most of his colleagues. Leipzig’s third came when he and Bellingham gave too much space in the middle of the park. Leipzig had the freedom of the field because of this.
Jude Bellingham, 6 – Jude did play some good stuff in the first half, linking up with Reus and Haaland. However, as soon as BVB went a goal down Bellingham and Witsel couldn’t get a hold on the game and gave the likes of Kampl way too much space.
Thorgan Hazard, 6
Marco Reus, 6 – Reus was at the centre of Dortmund’s play. He worked well in the first period and tried to get his side going. However, let down by some poor defending, his effort was ultimately in vain.
Marius Wolf, 6
Erling Haaland, 6 – Haaland had a quiet day by his standards. His best moment of the game came in the first half when Bellingham played him through. He dragged the shot wide and was eventually called offside. However, the striker was in fact on, if he scores that chance it could have been a different game.

Josko Gvardiol, 8 – The young Croatian was brilliant at the back today. At just twenty years of age, Gvardiol is showing just how great he can be. If Leipzig hold on to players like this, they may just be able to challenge with Bayern one day.

Kevin Kampl, 8 – With 70 minutes under his belt today, the experienced Kampl showed his class. Dortmund did make it easy for the Slovenia but he made it count. His fellow midfielder, Laimer will make the headlines but Kampl’s performance doesn’t go unnoticed.
Konrad Laimer, 9 – Laimer was outstanding today and got himself two goals. The first was clinically finished whereas the second took a massive deflection. But when you work hard you earn your luck. To cap off his performance he provided an excellent assist for Leipzig’s third.
Nordi Mukiele, 7
Daniel Olmo, 7 – Olmo played his role well today. He was involved in many of Leipzig’s chances and eventually found the net himself immediately after Dortmund pulled one back. Olmo’s goal capped off an excellent day at the office for Leipzig.
Christopher Nkunku, 9 – Two assists and one goal for Nkunku today. The Frenchman continues to deliver for Leipzig and is now up to 16 goals this season, level with Haaland.
