Aston Villa striker Danny Ings has explained why he didn’t celebrate against Southampton on Sunday.
The Englishman joined Villa from Southampton last summer in a deal worth £30m.
Ings scored in Villa’s 4-0 win over Saints at Villa Park on Saturday but chose not to celebrate his goal.
“It was quite easy not to celebrate because I have so much respect for Southampton,” Ings told BBC Sport.
“They almost gave me a second chance in football, and I am so grateful for that, and I always will be. It was a mixed emotion kind of day for me.”
He added: “It was a great win against a very tough opponent. We handled the press quite well.
“We could have been better on the ball to play through it, but overall we have to be delighted with that performance.
“Partnerships take time, and me and Ollie (Watkins) have been working so hard on the training pitch to try and build a partnership.
“There was some nice stuff today, and hopefully, we can keep going together.”
