Romelu Lukaku is said to be enraged by recent rumours that he is willing to decrease his pay in order to get a fast escape from Chelsea.
Lukaku has struggled to adjust to life in England, with uneven results on the pitch and a notorious chat with Italian media contributing to a general sense of doldrums for the Belgian, who has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup in recent weeks.
Rumours surrounding Lukaku’s future have been widespread for some time and intensified on Saturday with news from La Gazzetta dello Sport that the striker has been in contact with former club Inter and has already agreed to reduce his salaries to facilitate a move.
The report was swiftly debunked by a number of English sites, and now The Telegraph has taken it a step further by stating that Lukaku was enraged by the rumours.
Indeed, the tales are believed to have ‘appalled’ Lukaku, who has urged Chelsea to remain united amid a moment of extreme uncertainty off the field.
Roman Abramovich has been removed from the club’s board of directors, and bidders have been encouraged to submit offers to the UK government after the Russian decided to continue with a sale in which he would get no compensation.
Lukaku is not said to be concerned about the issue and is irritated with the way he is being portrayed as manipulating the uncertainty to secure his trade.
He intends to remain and fight for his job under Tuchel, having previously stated his desire to make his second stint at Chelsea more successful than his first.
Apart from the Inter speculation in Italy, Lukaku has been included on a Spanish list of striker choices for Barcelona in the event that they lose out on key target Erling Haaland this summer.
