Speaking before Lyon’s game with Rennes this weekend, OL midfielder Maxence Caqueret discussed a possible contract extension at the club, with his current deal up at the end of next season, while explaining that “the French national team is something that makes me dream”. On a new deal, the 22-year-old said:
“My entourage is in discussions with the club but I’m focusing on the pitch. It’s not something that distracts me. In general, I try to be the best I can be and focus on my training and our games without thinking about it.”
“Of course the French national team is something that makes me dream. It’s a goal for me in my career to reach the senior squad. Given that I’ve played in all the other categories, it’s logical that I’m thinking of making it to the senior team in the future. But I don’t put pressure on myself – if it comes, it comes. And I’ll be the happiest guy in the world if it does. If it doesn’t come, I’ll still work hard to achieve this goal.”
Lyon coach, Peter Bosz, meanwhile discussed his player’s progress under him this season, saying:
“I’ve talked a lot with him about not losing possession cheaply, it’s not always possible to play forward if the passing lanes are closed. In this case, he has to keep the ball. He can still develop but, if he progresses in this area, he’ll play for the France national team. His anticipation is incredible. He recovers a lot of second balls and balls lost by his teammates. But he must be careful, not lose easy balls.”
