Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League with a convincing 4-1 win over neighbours, Man United.
City went into the match knowing they needed a win to re-establish their lead at the top of the table, with Liverpool, who won on Saturday chasing them down.
With this in mind, the Cityzens got off to a blistering start at Etihad, and they took the lead inside the opening five minutes.
Kevin de Bruyne created some space inside the box and coolly finished a Bernardo Silva ball into the bottom left corner.
Man United worked their way back into the game, and managed to equalise in the 22nd minute through former player Jadon Sancho, who collected a wonderful pass and fired a strong low shot from distance that ricocheted in off the right post.
Phil Foden came close to adding a second in the 27th minute when he created some space inside the box after picking up a neat pass, but his shot low towards the middle of the goal was comfortably saved by David de Gea.
The rebound however fell to De Bruyne after a melee in the box, and he easily beat the keeper from close range.
Foden wasted a big opportunity to add a third for City in the 40th minute, but his shot from inside the penalty area flew narrowly wide of the right post.
Sancho too failed to find the back of the net just before the break when he picked up a pass inside the box but he blazed his shot well over the top.
David de Gea then pulled a world-class save to deny Mahrez as the match went into the break with City leading.
It was all City in the second half as they created more scoring chances time, and again.
They however had to wait until the 68th minute for a third, and it was a ferocious Riyad Mahrez shot from the edge of the box following a De Bruyne corner ball.
Mahrez scored his second, and City’s fourth, late on to add some icing on the cake as the defending champions maintained their march to yet another crown.
This is also the first time City have managed a league double over their neighbours since the 2018/19 season.
