Rangnick makes Solskjaer comparison after Southampton draw

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick believes their draw against Southampton was the type of result that got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked.

United have had a tendency of losing leads in games and the same happened on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Saint. Speaking after the game, the German says his team was still making the same mistakes they did under Solskjaer.

“We have to understand where we are. Southampton won 2-3 at Tottenham, and they expected to win easily. We got a point today; we expected three and needed three, but that is the situation. That is why there was a change of manager and why we are here.

“It was very similar to previous games, unfortunately. It is the fourth game where we were ahead but took one point instead of three. It is difficult to take but we have to accept it,” Rangnick said.

In the game, Jadon Sancho netted his first home goal in a United shirt to give his side a deserved lead but the hosts were pegged back just three minutes into the second-half when Che Adams netted past David de Gea.

It was a result that dents United top-four hopes with both West Ham and Arsenal in good positions to send them further down the table should they win their respective games.
