Inter Milan advanced to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night following a 2-0 victory over AS Roma.
Jose Mourinho’s return to San Siro didn’t end well as he watched his side Roma leave the tournament at quarterfinals stage. Milan were ahead just after two minutes of play thanks to Edin Dzeko’s strike.
In the second half, Alexis Sanchez ensured Milan advanced to the semis of the Coppa Italia following his long-range strike.
Mourinho’s received a warm welcome at San Siro since leaving in 2010 but things didn’t go as planned for the Portuguese.
“The way they welcomed me here, the directors gave me a beautiful gift, and then the fans were very nice to me, this is the emotional side. I can only say thank you. I will never hide my eternal relationship with Inter,” Mourinho told Mediaset.
“But I came here to win, for my Roma and my people, and we didn’t manage to. Apart from the first five minutes, we played very well.”
The final whistle goes.
