Transfer Update: Newcastle agree £13m transfer for Dan Burn with Brighton

Newcastle United and Brighton have reportedly agreed to a £13 million price for Dan Burn.

Toon had had two offers rejected, but have finally succeeded in bringing the defender back to the North East.

Burn, who was born in the Northumberland town of Blyth, must now agree on personal conditions and undergo a medical examination, although there are unlikely to be any complications.

This is a significant boost for Magpies manager Eddie Howe, who identified strengthening at the center-back position as a priority at the start of the window, and, having been unable to sign Lille’s Sven Botman or Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, Howe will be glad to bring in a fresh addition – particularly one with Premier League experience.

Newcastle News on Futaa!

Albion were not aggressively pursuing the sale of Burn, who has been in superb form this season and has superbly contained Romelu Lukaku in Brighton’s two recent matches with Chelsea.

They would not, however, obstruct his desire to return to his boyhood club, where he is anticipated to greatly increase his pay.

Burn’s contract also had 18 months remaining, and with his 30th birthday coming up in May, the money is considered a decent bargain for the South Coast club.

While Burn did not initiate the relocation, he is said to be overjoyed to be returning ‘home’.

As a child, the 6ft 7ins defender idolized Alan Shearer and attended the Magpies’ 2000 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea as a supporter.

Burn was also on Newcastle’s hit list until he was freed when he was 11 years old.
