5️⃣ Five players who could leave Chelsea at the end of the season if current sanctions stand

Chelsea were thrown into a state of limbo on Thursday when the UK government sanctioned owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian has been under scrutiny from the government because of his close ties with Russian president Vladimir Putin in the wake of his invasion of Ukraine.

The sanctions came a week after Abramovich announced he was selling the club, with few parties already showing interest.

The sale of the club is now on hold and activities such as selling new tickets and signing players have been restricted.

Only six season ticket holders will be allowed to attend home matches, at least for now.

Also, existing players may not be given new contracts, and this could be disastrous for the club.

Five players will be out of contract at the end of the current season, meaning they will leave the club, unless the situation changes.

Antonio Rudiger

The German has failed to reach an agreement with the club over a new contract, despite both parties indicating they were willing to negotiate.

The defender was reportedly holding out for a big payday, with the club unwilling to match his demands.

He has been one of the best players under Thomas Tuchel, and his departure will be a huge loss for the London club.

Cezar Azpiliecueta

The club captain’s time could be coming to an end this season. The Spaniard is yet to agree on a new deal, even though Tuchel revealed recently they will let him decide if he wants to stay.

He has reportedly been offered a deal by Barcelona, which still remains on the table.

Andreas Christensen

Speaking on Wednesday, Tuchel said the club are could lose the academy graduate, even though he would want him to stay.

“He has not signed yet so we can’t communicate anything. We are not happy about it and personally and the club representatives think it’s best for him to stay here. We rely heavily on him.

“We have to consider the possibility that he may leave us. Will we like that? No. Will we live with it? Yes.

Two other players who are out of contract are Saul Niguez, whose loan deal from Atletico Madrid expires at the end of the season, as well as Charly Musonda.

Musonda, whose development was hampered by a four-year injury, has not played for the club since 2017/18
