Liverpool would pull off a ‘very exciting’ signing if they manage to tempt Borussia Dortmund star Youssoufa Moukoko to Anfield, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Merseyside giants have gone into the break from domestic football sitting sixth in the Premier League, but boss Jurgen Klopp will be handed an opportunity to bolster his squad during the January window.
What’s the latest news involving Moukoko?
According to German media outlet Bild, Liverpool are interested in Moukoko and could seal a deal during the early stages of 2023.
The report suggests the 18-year-old, who is currently in Qatar after being included in the Germany squad for the World Cup, could be signed for £26million and a number of agencies are vying to become his representatives.
But Liverpool are not Moukoko’s only admirers as it is understood that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United joined them in watching him in action against Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this month, while Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on his situation.
Dortmund are reportedly preparing to sell the striker when the transfer window reopens for business in January as they do not want to risk seeing him walk away as a free agent when his contract expires in the summer.
The Bundesliga giants have been attempting to tie Moukoko down to a new deal for a number of months, but his hefty wage demands have left his current employers frustrated.

What has Dean Jones said about Moukoko?
Jones believes it will be easier for Liverpool to sign Moukoko than Dortmund team-mate Jude Bellingham, who has attracted interest from a number of clubs alongside the Reds.
The journalist feels the teenager has a bright future ahead of him and would develop under Klopp’s stewardship at Anfield.
When asked whether Liverpool would have less difficulty luring Moukoko to Merseyside than Bellingham, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Possibly, yes. I think the level of competition is going to be different, but the level of investment is different too.
“Moukoko is a very exciting player. You can definitely see how he would feel that under Jurgen Klopp he could improve.”
Would Moukoko be an exciting signing for Liverpool?
Moukoko became the youngest player to score 10 Bundesliga goals when he netted against Bochum earlier this month, but that is not the first record he has broken during the early stages of his career.
That is because it came after he was also the most youthful star to find the back of the net in the German top flight when he got his name on the scoresheet at just 16 years and 28 days old.
Moukoko has shown his attacking intent by racking up six goals and as many assists in 22 appearances this season, further underlining how exciting he would be at Liverpool.
He features in Dortmund’s top five Bundesliga performers this season, having registered an average match rating of 6.88.
After grabbing his first Germany cap during a win over Oman days before the World Cup got underway, Moukoko will be looking to gain game-time in Qatar and Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on his progress.
