Tottenham Hotspur roared into the Premier League top four with an easy 5-1 come-from-behind win over Newcastle United on Sunday evening.
Spurs had won their previous two matches going into the contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and were looking to make it five wins in their last six matches.
They got off to a comfortable start against a side struggling in the bottom half, even though clear chances were hard to come by in the opening half.
Surprisingly, it was Newcastle that took the lead in the 39th minute when Fabian Schar cleverly found the bottom corner from a freekick just outside the box.
The goal was however subjected to a VAR review with checks set to ascertain whether or not there was a handball in the buildup.
The lead however lasted only two minutes as Heung-Min Son played a neat lofted pass into the box for Ben Davies, who beat the defender in the air and planted a header into the right side of the goal from close range.
Three minutes into the second half, Matt Doherty made it 2-0, heading home a Harry Kane ball past the keeper in what was a perfect restart.
Newcastle seemed totally lost as Spurs stretched them, and unsurprisingly made it 3-1 in the 54th minute when Son wonderfully timed his run onto a cross and thundered the ball from deep inside the box into the left side of the net.
It got from bad to worse for the visitors as Emerson Royal made it 4-1 in the 63rd minute, latching on to a Matt Doherty ball to neatly finish past the goalkeeper.
There was still time to make it 5-1 as Steven Bergwijn came off the bench to round up the win, latching on to a superb pass inside the box and firing a low shot in off the left post.
The win took Spurs to 54 points, the same as Arsenal, who play Crystal Palace on Monday night.
