🔴Stats from Liverpool’s FA Cup title win over Chelsea

Liverpool can dream of the quadruple after beating Chelsea 6-5 in post-match penalties to win the trophy on Sunday.

With the Reds still in contention for the Premier League and the Champions League crowns, there is a belief that this has been one of the best-assembled Liverpool in recent time with Jurgen Klopp describing the group as ‘incredible’.

But what are the stats clocked in their historical win over Chelsea in the World’s oldest football competition?

  • Liverpool have won both of England’s domestic cup competitions for the first time since 2000-01 when they also went on to win a European trophy that season.
  • Chelsea are now the first side since Newcastle United (1974, 1998 & 1999) to lose three consecutive FA Cup finals having lost in 2019-20 (vs Arsenal), 2020-21 (vs Leicester), and tonight against Liverpool.
  • Liverpool now have eight FA Cups to their name, a record only bettered by Manchester United with 12 and Arsenal with 14.
  • This is only the third FA Cup final to go all the way to penalties, with the side who finished higher in the table that season winning both times (Arsenal v Man Utd in 2004-05 and Liverpool v West Ham in 2005-06).
  • Jurgen Klopp has become only the second manager to win the European Cup/Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and the English top-flight title all with the same English club, after Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United.
  • Mason Mount has now lost his five finals in a row at Wembley Stadium: three FA Cups (2020, 2021, 2022), EURO 2020 and the 2022 Carabao Cup final.
  • Chelsea have now lost 10 of their last 16 finals dating back to 2015, with the six wins coming in the League Cup (2015), FA Cup (2018), Europa League (2019), Champions League (2021), UEFA Super Cup (2021) and Club World Cup (2021).
  • Sadio Mane has now won four penalty shootouts in 2022: the AFCON final & World Cup qualification against Egypt, the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals against Chelsea.
  • Alisson Becker and Edouard Mendy have both now become the second and third goalkeepers to keep a clean sheet in both a European Cup/Champions League final and an FA Cup final after Ray Clemence of Liverpool.
