💰The highest value ever transfers in the PL history

The Premier League has become home to some of the most expensive transfers in recent times.

With Paul Pogba leaving Manchester United on a free and Romelu Lukaku’s future at Chelsea still unresolved, it’s proving that not all of these expensive moves have worked with some players performing dismally after making moves.

We look at the most money paid by clubs for players in the English top flight.

  • Jack Grealish ( Aston Villa to Manchester City £100 million)

This remains the most expensive transfer by an English club to date. Having captain Villa to safety in his last season with the club, Grealish couldn’t say no to Pep Guardiola and Man City after stating that his main aim was to win trophies.

His impact has not been felt properly as Pep didn’t really include him in most of the games but there is a belief he could get better at the club with more playing time in the coming season.

  • Romelu Lukaku ( Inter Milan to Chelsea £97 million)

Lukaku appears in the list twice in the top five following his moves to Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Belgian returned to the Bridge in dramatic style as Chelsea paid a hefty price to the Italian side.

He was instrumental in Inter Milan’s league win and Tuchel brought him in as he wanted a striker who could score goals on a regular basis. The player’s dream was to return to the Premier League to show United fans, who had accused him of being lazy, what they were missing but that deal hasn’t gone as he expected as he was relegated to the bench after stating that he still wanted to return to Inter.

  • Paul Pogba ( Juventus to Manchester United £89 million)

The mercurial midfielder returned to his former club as Jose Mourinho took over from departing Louis Van Gaal. Pogba became the most expensive buy, back in 2016 but his move divided the English media where he has been loved and hated in equal measure. That love and hate relationship has finally come to an end with the Frenchman set to return to Juventus this summer.

  • Harry Maguire ( Leicester City to Manchester United £78 million)

There was a lot of expectation for United when they paid a record fee in 2020 for a defender who had been on their radar for some time. While his first season wasn’t scrutinized as much, the player has become a target for most fans who have accused him of doing nothing for the team.

The armband handed to him by Ole Gunnar Solakjaer even made it worse as the pressure seems to have gotten better on the player who has continued to perform dismally with the fan’s threat of seeing someone plan a bomb in his family home earlier in April.

  • Romelu Lukaku ( Everton to Manchester United £75 million)

Another expensive transfer that involves Manchester United. The Belgian arrived at Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho requested for a striker to lead his goal onslaught during his tenure at the club. Lukaku made an instant impact in the first season but left for Inter after accusing United fans of not respecting his abilities. He is the only striker to break the highest-paid striker in Premier League twice.
