With the 2021/22 Premier League season behind us, attention has now shifted to the upcoming season, 2022/23.
For Chelsea, it has been a hectic period following the sanctions imposed on the immediate former owner, Roman Abramovich, which affected the operations at the London club.
Still, it was a good season for the Blues, and despite not winning a trophy, they qualified for Champions League football next season.
Here are key stats and figures from the season that was;
Player stats
- At 22 years and 40 days, Trevoh Chalobah became the second-youngest player to score on his Premier League debut for Chelsea (against Crystal Palace at home), after Paul Hughes in January 1997 (20 years and 274 days).
- Thiago Silva became the oldest outfield player (37 years and 234 days) to start an FA Cup final since Stanley Mathews in the 1953 final for Blackpool, aged 38.
- When Chelsea hosted Tottenha, Silva became the oldest Chelsea player to score in the Prmeier League (36years, and 123 days)
- Edouard Mendy is the second-quickest Chelsea player to reach 30 clean sheets (54 games). Petr Cech managed it in 51 games.
- Against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, Kepa Arrizabalaga moved ahead of Petr Cech with a club record seven shoot-out saves. He ended the season on eight.
- Against Malmo at home, Jorginho became the first Chelsea player to score two penalties in the same match on three occasions.
- Ben Chilwell was the first English player to score in four consecutive Premier League games for Chelsea since Frank Lampard in 2013.
- Timo Werner scored Chelsea’s quickest ever Champions League goal (one minute, 23 seconds) at Zenit St Petersburg.
- Jorginho scored 10 Premier League penalties in 2021, a record in a single calendar year in the competition.
- Against Newcastle United away, Jorginho became the first player in Premier League history to have 10 consecutive goals in the competition come from the penalty spot.
Manager stats
- Thomas Tuchel recorded his 50th victory with Chelsea in his 78th game in charge, giving him a 64.1 per cent win rate.
- Of the eight managers to earn 100 points or more in their first 50 Premier League games, four of them achieved it with Chelsea – Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Carlo Ancelotti and Thomas Tuchel.
- Thomas Tuchel’s 50th match in charge of Chelsea was at home against Juventus, during which he led the Blues to 32 wins (11 draws, seven defeats).
- Kai Havertz scored the 100th Premier League goal in the Thomas Tuchel era against Watford at home on the last day of the season.
