Xhaka warns Arsenal teammates: It’ll be even tougher next season

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka warned that it will be even tougher for his team to win the league in a year.

The Swiss international appears close to leaving the club in the summer for Bayer Leverkusen.

While Xhaka does believe that Arsenal have a young squad that is on the up, he is also mindful that taking a step forward to win trophies cannot be taken for granted.

Per The Mirror, he said: “We’ve played a great season – but we have to keep going. We must take another forward step because it’s going to be much more difficult next season. We know that.

“The board and the coach will decide what’s going to happen but we need to be ready for anything.”

He added on boss Arteta being capable of leading them to glory: “Forget that question, he’s more than the right manager for this club.”

“People shouldn’t forget how we have worked for 11 months,” he added.

“Even though we have lost the last two, you can’t forget the 11 months that we’ve worked. If someone had told us before the season that we would be here, I think everyone would have taken that.

“Our goal, for sure, was to be back in the top four. Now, we are second. Of course, when you’re so close to the title, you want to win it. But we are where we are, we deserve to be where we are and let’s see what happens.”
