West Ham dreams shattered as Eintracht Frankfurt seal victory after Cresswell red-card

West Ham United’s European adventure is over after they went down to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

The Hammers went down to 10-men after 19 minutes when Aaron Cresswell was shown his marching orders.

The English left-back was originally shown a yellow card for bringing down Jens Petter Hauge, but VAR upgraded the card to red.

Frankfurt took immediate advantage by giving themselves a two-goal aggregate lead when Rafael Borre hammered home from Ansgar Knauff’s low ball.

David Moyes was also sent off for kicking a ball at a ball boy.

West Ham had two decent chances towards the end when Tomas Soucek headed wide and Michail Antonio forced a save from Kevin Trapp.

But it was ultimately not enough as Frankfurt’s home supporters streamed onto the pitch to celebrate their first European final since 1980.

Frankfurt will face Rangers in the final in Sevilla on May after they beat RB Leipzig at Ibrox on Thursday.
