‘We want to win at all costs’ – Bruno Fernandes speaks on next week’s Manchester derbv

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has acknowledged the need to do better when they play rivals Manchester City next week.

United were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Watford on Saturday evening, despite being the better side through the match.

Bruno and Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to getting a goal each for United, but it was not to be as they dropped points at home again this season.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes was critical of the overall performance, saying they need to up their game when they play Pep Guardiola’s team.

“We tried [to find the net] but the ball seemed to bounce off every player, our players, their players,” he said.

“As I’ve said before it was just one of those days where the ball wouldn’t go in.

“Unfortunately for us it was just one point.”

United are on course to securing a Champions League spot but lost the chance to put pressure on third-placed Chelsea, who won’t be in action this weekend, and Fernandes knows this well.

”As I have said many times, we have dropped points on third place again,” he lamented.

“I think that’s the main thing for us, as we could be much closer to them [Chelsea].

“However, now is not the time to start thinking about how many points we should have now or how many points we should have in the end.

Speaking of next week’s derby, Fernandes said the team will try to win the match at all costs.

”It’s one of those games where we know what it means for the city, for the fans, for the club, and for ourselves.

“It’s a game we want to win at all costs.”

United will be hoping to get another victory at Etihad, and recent history favours them.

The Red Devils have won five of the last seven derbies at the Etihad Stadium.
