Villarreal midfielder Dani Parejo admitted mixed emotions after scoring in their 1-1 draw with Champions League opponents Juventus.
In the first-leg of their round 16 tie, Juve’s Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring at La Ceramica within 32 seconds of his debut in the tournament, but Parejo equalised after an Adrien Rabiot error.
Parejo later said: “I thought we were dominant in the first half and in general we deserved to win, given how the game went and that we were the better side. I’m not entirely happy because we played well and went toe to toe with them and if one side deserved to win, it was Villarreal.
“It was a really tough game. When they score against you in the first minute, the gamplan sort of gets ripped up a bit. Despite that, we played our game.
“We knew they’d press us high. We conceded in the first play of the game and then the match settled into what we expected: a tough game.”
On his goal, the midfielder added: “I saw the space and, luckily, Capoue did too. Perhaps if I had struck the ball well, it wouldn’t have gone in.”
