Villarreal coach Emery admits ‘indignation’ after Sevilla draw

Villarreal coach Unai Emery admits there was a lot of anger amongst his players after their 1-1 draw with Sevilla.

The visitors equalised with a last-gasp finish from Jules Koundé via a corner. Earlier, Gio Lo Celso had scored to put Emery’s side ahead. The officiating of ref Jesus Gil Manzano left Villarreal players and staff fuming at the final whistle.

Emery said, “We played a very good game. We managed to do everything we could, like defusing our opponents’ play. We had chances. There were a lot of controversial moments in which we suffered a disadvantage, but I’m very happy with the team’s work.

“We have to give value to the draw, but it’s a shame because we deserved to win. I’m trying to make us all better and I’m very happy with the team’s work.

“My only disappointment was with things that didn’t depend on us. We did what we had to do, I’m very happy about that. The indignation prevails in the players because of the result, but the work has been magnificent.”
