Former Barcelona assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzué has urged fans to be patient with Xavi.
Results have been underwhelming since Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman earlier this season.
At the presentation of the documentary, Vivir ValELA pena, Unzue said: “I would go back and remind all the Catalans of the patience they had with Johan Cruyff. I remember in a final against Real Madrid in Valencia that it was said that if they didn’t win, Johan would possibly leave the club.
“Imagine what we would have lost later because we all agree that the foundations for success were the ones he laid. At that time he had the necessary patience to succeed. This is not as easy as flipping a switch.
“Currently the coaches have more demanding games, results, dressing room management… There is an added difficulty, all the Primera coaches arrived at the beginning of a season, with time to transmit that idea. Xavi has arrived halfway through the course and now has a game every three days.
“I hope that they have enough patience with Xavi Hernández because the Catalans have reasons to enjoy themselves with the youngsters.”
