Assistant to Hansi Flick, Danny Röhl has discussed the composition of the Germany squad ahead of the World Cup next month. Players such as Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund) and Rani Khedira (Union Berlin) have made the provisional squad list but with less than two weeks until Flick has to name his squad, there’s still time for others to stake a claim for a place in team.
“About two-thirds of the players are certain,” Röhl told T-Online. “For the rest, we’re also looking at players who play in multiple positions and can therefore be hybrid players for us.”
Hansi Flick will nominate a 26-man squad on November 26, of which Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) and Lukas Klostermann (RB Leipzig) can still make despite their long-term injuries. “It’s not out of the question that we’ll take someone with us who hasn’t played a minute yet,” added Röhl. “But it would be desirable if they could at least play one game.”
On making a final decision, Röhl said: “We have to think about what’s best for the squad. Not only does the tactical function of players play a role but also the interpersonal aspect. It’s about team leadership, energy and atmosphere.”
