Trippier excited about Newcastle move: I know the position we’re in

Kieran Trippier says he’s excited to be the first signing of the new era at Newcastle United.

The former Atletico Madrid fullback joined Newcastle in a £12m move yesterday.

Trippier said at his unveiling: “I made it clear a few months back if I had the opportunity to come back to the Premier League I’d love to do so.

“It’s important for my family as well. This is a great opportunity.

“I am the type of player who loves challenges, I had a challenge going to Atletico Madrid in the first place changing countries, different league.

“Now I am at Newcastle and I know the position they’re in.

“I am here to help as much as I can on and off the field. I have a great relationship with the manager who I have worked with before.

“This is a huge challenge and one that I am excited about.”

Having worked with Eddie Howe during his fledgling years at Burnley, Trippier will not need reminding what is expected of him as he prepares to play for his new club.

Trippier stated manager Eddie Howe was a big factor in his decision to sign on the dotted line.

Trippier added: “It was very important as he is a great manager.

“I kept in contact with him ever since he left 10 or 11 years ago.

“He’s another big reason why I came here, I know what he demands in training, I know what he expects in game.

“I am here to fight and help as much as I can.

“The players that have played with me and the managers that have coached me throughout my career know I will give 110%.”

Trippier then insisted he did not feel under any extra pressure to perform despite his high profile arrival and United’s precarious position.

Trippier reflected: “No pressure.

“I spoke to the lads today and trained with them.

“I’m still ambitious, I know that I still want the England team.

“I am up against Reece James, Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold and I feel I can still handle the pressure and performances.

“I still feel I am in good shape but I have to give good performances for Newcastle.

“I just need to focus on myself and new team-mates.”

And he said he was ready to focus firmly on the task in hand, Trippier added: “Right now the main aim is staying in the Premier League.

“The whole project you see the excitement.

“You see the supporters, the owners and the manager and it is something I am happy to be part of.

“Obviously as a team we need to stay in the Premier League.

“We believe we can stay up and hopefully with my arrival I can help the players around me.

“I can be a leader in the dressing room and with my experience help as much as I can on and off the field.

“I will do the best I can and give 110%.”
