Spanish reporter Ricardo Sierra has reviewed his tense post-match interview with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola last night.
Guardiola spoke to the Movistar+ journalist after City’s Champions League win against Real Madrid and was short with his answers to Sierra.
Many branded the Catalan “surly” for his response and Sierra recalled: “I realised the second question. At first I said well, to begin with and such, but for the second I already thought ‘oops, he’s coming at me’.
“So, you do an exercise to try to find questions because you know that the whole interview is going to be like that. By not leaving it for 30 or 40 seconds, you try to think of all the questions that are relevant to what happened in the match.
“I had a hard time thinking that all the answers were going to be like this, I said to myself ‘I have to get smart to see if at some point I hit a sensitive chord and a little more’. But I saw at the end that it was going to be complicated, it was obvious. There was one that made me laugh, the one I did to him about whether what happened this week could condition the return. The answer ‘well I don’t know’ is obvious…
“I think he didn’t insult me at any time, but it’s true that he showed that he didn’t want to be where he was. But I repeat, from respect and education. He was sparing in words and we all know that Pep Guardiola has a much more elaborate speech when he wants to, but these are things that happen, I would simply leave it anecdotal.”
