Ronald Araujo has rejected Barcelona’s new contract offer.
Marca says talks between the player’s agent and the Catalan club took place last week, but the offer put forward by the Blaugrana was swiftly turned down, although discussions were amicable and they are expected to return to the negotiating table at a later date.
However, the news has put Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea on alert, as the Uruguayan could be tempted by a mega offer from some of the world’s richest clubs.
Araujo has become a mainstay in the Barcelona starting line-up, proving himself as a more than capable partner for Gerard Pique at the heart of the defence, and even proving his versatility by featuring at both right and left back when needed.
Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has made Araujo’s contract extension a priority, giving his youth and potential, as well as the fact that the defence has been a troubled position for the club in recent years.
