Roma boss Jose Mourinho ahead of Europa League final: “I think about the happiness I can give to the Roma fans”

Ahead of the Giallorossi’s significant clash within the Europa League finals against Spanish outfits Sevilla, Roma boss Jose Mourinho provided an insight on his thoughts and emotions heading into the finals amidst speculation regarding his future.

As it stands, it seems likely that the European final will be the Portuguese tactician’s final match in the capital club’s dugout as Mourinho is expected to depart Roma following a rift between himself and the board in regards to a lack of financial backing in order to improve the squad.

Despite the Giallorossi’s underwhelming run of form consisting of three draws and two losses within their last five Serie A fixtures, Mourinho has done a tremendous job in guiding the capital club towards their second European final.

With the top four of the Serie A out of sight as Roma find themselves in sixth with 60 points, seven points adrift from fourth-placed Milan with only one game left to play, winning the cup final serves as the only way for Mourinho’s side to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.

While speaking to Sky Sport, as relayed by LaRoma24, Mourinho touched upon his career up until now and previewed the Giallorossi’s second consecutive European final.

He stated: “I don’t think much about what I’ve won in my career. The past remains, history cannot be erased. I always look to the future, perhaps this is the secret of my philosophy. I’ve been in football for a long time, this final is a new final. Now I no longer think about what I could win, but about the happiness I can give to the Roma fans. It is a city that thrives on football. Roma is belonging, being part of something. I continue to give my all. I’m not ready to come full circle, not at all. I’ve been in football for so many years, people think I’m older than I am. Maybe they see my white hair and think I’m old, but I’m not old enough to think about coming full circle You will still see me for many years”.

The coach continued:“I don’t think there’s a secret. The question is simple. We often forget that the most important thing, in football and beyond, is human relationships. I can also speak for my players: we give everything. And I think it’s because of this attitude that the Roma fans respect us so much and have great empathy with us. We work hard every day to build the history of Roma, two consecutive European finals only the big clubs with a great history are there they usually succeed. And even for them it is not easy. For us, having succeeded now has great value”.
