River Plate striker to join Manchester City in the summer.

River Plate striker Julian Alvarez will be moving to England in the summer after Manchester City decided to trigger the €1.5million clause in his contract.

The player was signed by City in January this year and it was widely reported that the 22-year-old would link up with the Blues after River Plate were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.

Argentine journalists Ivan Alvarenga, Gian Senatori, and Gustavo Yarroch reported that the talismanic River forward would be leaving the club in the summer after a meeting between City and the Primera Division side laid out that the €1.5million clause would be executed – enabling Alvarez to join up with his new teammates ahead of schedule.

Alvarez was set to remain at his club until the end of the season but City wants him to join the club as soon as possible as they want to start the new season with a recognized striker having signed none since the departure of Sergio Aguero last summer.

City remains in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund marksman Erling Haaland but they fear they might be priced out of the player who prefers a move to Spain.
