Matthew Marshall, Sportpark Ronhof – Greuther Fürth and Stuttgart couldn’t find a breakthrough in an uneventful 0-0 draw at an empty Sportpark Ronhof. The visitors created more chances and came home strong, but Sasa Kalajdzic’s lack of playing time was evident as he spurned Stuttgart’s best opportunities.

‘Kleeblatt’ made it three consecutive clean sheets at home, but their absence of any notable attacking threat remains. Stuttgart continue to be over-reliant on Borna Sosa creating chances from the left wing.

Hrgota misses both chances for Fürth

Greuther Fürth have scored 13 goals in 18 Bundesliga matches this season and it’s easy to see why. They had two chances to score at home but couldn’t beat Florian Müller.

The first came in the 22nd minute, Nick Viergever heading Paul Seguin’s long ball into the path of Branimir Hrgota, Müller producing the save of the match from close range.

Hrgota had another chance in the 54th minute when he picked up Orel Mangala’s horror pass, lifted the ball over Müller with Waldemar Anton clearing it off the line.

Borna Sosa and Sasa Kalajdzic a class above

It was evident throughout the match that Borna Sosa and Sasa Kalajdzic were the two standout players on show. They were involved in the majority of Stuttgart’s opportunities.

Sosa’s cross in the 26th minute found Kalajdzic behind the lines, he chested the ball down but couldn’t generate enough power on his overhead kick.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side were never in any real danger and stepped up a gear with 15 minutes remaining. Sosa delivered two corners in the space of two minutes that were both met by Kalajdzic, the first a weak header that was cleared and the other going wide.

Pascal Stenzel’s deflected cross was tipped off the bar by Sascha Burchert before Stuttgart’s best chance came in the 83rd minute. 18-year-old Alexis Tibidi produced a perfect cross that found Kalajdzic but the Austrian striker fired over from close range.

There was still time for two more chances, Stenzel firing over the bar and Ömer Faruk Beyaz spinning inside the 18-yard-box before shooting wide.
