Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema admits he feels in career best form.
For victory over Champions League opponents SG, Benzema scored a hat-trick and overtook Alfredo di Stefano as the club’s third-highest goalscorer, as well as leapfrogged Raul’s 66 Champions League goals.
“I don’t know if it was one of my best games for Real Madrid,” Benzema said of the game. “I also think the Champions League final against Liverpool [is one of the best].
“It was a very big game, not just for me but for everyone. It could be [my best season]. I always want to make every year better than the previous one.”
The Frenchman continued to recognise how special the game against PSG was, but insisted it was a team effort more than just his impact that won the match.
“It was an unforgettable night,” Benzema said. “Because we went through, because of the atmosphere, the goals, the comeback.
“I’m proud, but it was because of the whole team, everyone on the pitch and of those who couldn’t come on. All of the teammates, all of the coaches. It was a magical night for us all.”
Moving third in Real Madrid’s scoring charts is something that means a lot to the forward, and he takes great pride in his 309 goals.
“Beating Di Stefano is a dream,” Benzema said. “He’s a legend.
“I remember the hug he gave me at my presentation for Real Madrid. Being at his level makes me happy, and gives me the motivation to go even higher.
“I remember that he told me to enjoy my time at this great club.”
