Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admits it’s been an inconsistent past month.
However, Courtois insists they can still turn their Champions League round 16 tie around after losing the first-leg 1-0.
He said, “We have had a month of ups and downs. Being eliminated in the Copa was not what was expected and the first leg in Paris was not good, but everything is still open. I’m happy to have helped the team with my saves, with the penalty against PSG. We hope we can come back. The Bernabéu has experienced many moments like this, of comebacks, and we hope to be able to do the same.”
On saving Leo Messi’s penalty, Courtois continued: “What I do, and most goalkeepers, is study the shooters because some have a preferred side, or have scored several penalties in a row from the same place and they are confident.
“They can change, but you think about it, you pick a side and you go for it.
“Obviously, because of the player that he is, it was a nice and special moment, but it will mean little or nothing if we don’t get through the round. So I will have to play again like this so that we can pass and that penalty means more.”
