Race for the Scudetto: Osimhen produces Napoli masterclass; Pellegri finds form at Torino; Inter Milan gain momentum

In the latest weekend of the Italian Championship there were not so many surprises, even if there were many goals, especially in the matches of the two Milanesi, with the Rossoneri winning 4-1 against Monza and Inter succeeding at Fiorentina’s home 3-4. Let’s see what happened in the latest round of Serie A:

Seven goals, lots of shots and chances: it was a show. Obviously many individual mistakes too, of course, it is inevitable, but surely everyone who watched the game enjoyed it. A real swing of emotions, with the Nerazzurri who managed to win by scoring in the very last second available, showing that they believe in their chances until the end.

Simone Inzaghi’s team, which has evidently got back on track and is relaunching for the race for a place in the Champions League next season, had gone ahead 2-0 thanks to goals scored by Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez (he’s on fire) in the first 15 minutes of the match.

Arthur Cabral from a penalty and then Jonathan Ikonè had brought the Viola level at 2-2 (the second truly an incredible goal, an unstoppable shot for Andre Onana), but once again Lautaro had brought his players back by scoring a penalty. In the ninetieth minute, with the goal scored by Luka Jovic, the game seemed destined for a final draw, but in the last second of the game Viola’s defence exposed itself in an incredible way to Inter’s counterattack: the Nerazzurri, thanks to a mistake by Lorenzo Venuti who let in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who found the final goal for the 3-4, that of the three final points. A very important result for Inter.

It was truly a sensational goal, one of those that end up in the pre-match program clips. He decided Roma-Napoli on his own. It had been a balanced match, blocked, thanks to the good defensive work of the two teams, with only one save by Rui Patricio (from a shot of Hirving Lozano).

Jose Mourinho’s attack at the moment is struggling to find its way to goal, due to a not particularly happy moment for Nicolo Zaniolo and Tammy Abraham, sterile in front of goal and in the area.

In the 80th minute of the match, it seemed to be destined for a draw, or in any case to possibly unexpected scenarios in one direction or another, but a masterclass by Osimhen changed the result and gave the three points to coach Luciano Spalletti and Napoli, confirmed as the first force in the league and the most fit Italian team.

The credit on Sunday evening was all to the Nigerian bomber, who made all his talent weigh in a blocked and complicated game. He managed to do what Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and his other teammates couldn’t.

A little surprisingly Pellegri and Rabiot are among the best players from the last Serie A weekend. The former is finally showing what was expected of him a few years ago, when he was considered an enfant prodigy. The time with Milan wasn’t a good experience, but this year with Ivan Juric there are all the conditions to show his talent: on Saturday he scored the decisive goal for the victory of his team against Udinese, one of the most in-form teams of the championship. This is the right path.

Rabiot, on the other hand, has recently returned to being the top player of which Juventus had bet several years ago. One of the most decisive players in recent matches, he confirmed himself as such also on Saturday against Empoli, scoring two goals and also relaunching himself in a World Cup perspective, where he will play with the France shirt and at this point it is also possible that he will go there expecting a starring role.

The Juventus management would like to renew his contract so as not to risk losing him as a free agent, given that several important Premier League teams have put eyes on him. These last two pre-World Cup matches will be decisive, but so far he has been brilliant.

The Rossoneri always manage to be stronger than difficulties, absences and injuries. Somehow, with the a trick of this or that player, Milan always manages to get away with it, even on complicated days when they seem to risk something more.

The match against Monza, special for a club legend like Adriano Galliani (who was moved before and during the game), but also for Silvio Berlusconi, was much more complicated than the final result of 4-1 would suggest.

The first goal of the day was scored by Brahim Diaz, after a quarter of an hour of play, with a flash of a great player. The Spaniard at the moment is one of the most important players in the team and is in fact taking the role that Charles De Ketelaere should have had: he scored two goals, the second of which decisive to direct the match at 2-0.

Divock Origi also scored, with a great shot from outside the area: it would be very beneficial for Stefano Pioli to start getting some goals now from the former LIverpool striker.

The Rossoneri with this win are second in the standings.
