L’Équipe report today that Paris Saint-Germain would not be against selling Neymar this summer should a high enough offer come in, even if the Brazilian would like to stay in the French capital.
The reason for this is the former Barcelona man’s decline since his arrival in 2017, having suffered multiple injuries and seen his influence on the team falter, as well as his debatable lifestyle as an elite athlete.
Notably, Kylian Mbappé and the forward have grown distant in the last few years, and the World Cup winner privately mocks the Brazilian.
As a result, the French would not be against a Neymar sale, a view which the PSG management have been informed of.
Incoming director Luis Campos’ team are convinced that the 30-year-old could pose an issue, and that a solution is best found as soon as possible – this could involve leaving the door open to a departure.
However, Neymar has no intention of leaving. The Brazilian is not bothered about Mbappé’s increasing status within the team. He loves Paris, lives a 90-minute plane ride from Barcelona and is the second-highest earner in the squad.
His current wages would be a particular issue, with Newcastle the only club that could afford him – and Neymar would not necessarily be keen on moving to northern England.
The forward is convinced that he can return to form in a PSG shirt – as evidenced by his 10 goals and 5 assists since returning from injury in the back end of the season.
His entourage, however, have indicated that they have not been told Neymar is on any transfer list, and point to his recent extension linking him to the club until 2025.
