Paulo Sousa on Cristiano Ronaldo: “He needs time to realise that the moment is different”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United from Juventus arguably didn’t turn out as the Portuguese would have wanted to. He now finds himself on the bench of the Red Devils and even walked down the tunnel before United’s match against Tottenham ended last week. Another Portuguese footballer that used to play for Juventus – Paulo Sousa, understands Ronaldo’s frustrations.

Sousa thinks that Ronaldo needs to adapt to his new role at Manchester United. In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, 52-year-old former Fiorentina coach said:

“It is hard for every player, even for Cristiano. It’s not easy to realize that others don’t think of him as they used to before. He needs time to realise that the moment is different. Today it’s hard to have balance.”

After arriving from Juventus for €15 million, Ronaldo was still of big importance to United last season, with 18 goals in 30 Premier League appearances. Since Erik Ten Hag became coach, Ronaldo only has two Premier League starts under his name.

Following his early exit during the game against Tottenham, the Portuguese was excluded from United’s squad that travelled to Stamford Bridge last weekend. Some reports are suggesting that Ronaldo could leave Manchester United in the upcoming winter transfer window.
