Paul Pogba says ‘no’ to Manchester City move

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is said to have turned down the opportunity to join Manchester City this summer.

The World Cup winner’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, and he’ll almost certainly leave as a free agent.

Due to a season-ending calf injury, Pogba is expected to have played his final game for the Red Devils, but his fitness record and uneven form have not discouraged potential suitors.

Juventus has been connected with a bid for their former star, while Real Madrid and PSG are also interested in signing the France international.

Man City, though, were said to be contemplating a surprise move for the 29-year-old last week, with the Premier League winners bidding farewell to Fernandinho at the conclusion of the season.

Pogba was reportedly picked by Pep Guardiola as the ideal player to fill the Brazilian’s gap, but according to The Athletic, he has turned down the opportunity to transfer across the city.

Despite his commitment to Man United, Pogba is claimed to have seriously considered a move to City, with the midfielder assessing all of his options ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the source, City made the former Juventus player a “flattering offer” to join them, but he wants a “full package” instead.

Pogba is set to wait until the end of the season to make a definitive decision on his future, as he is preparing to leave Man United for the second time after making 226 appearances since his £89 million return in 2016.

During that time, the Frenchman has scored 39 goals and provided 51 assists for the club, winning the EFL Cup and the Europa League under Jose Mourinho’s guidance in 2016-17.

Despite his injury difficulties, Pogba has only made 27 appearances in all tournaments this season, scoring one goal and providing nine assists in Premier League play.
