Wolfsburg have today announced the signing of Sweden international Mattias Svanberg from Serie A side Bologna for a reported fee between €8m-€10m. The 23-year-old has signed a five-year deal until 2027.
“In the talks with the management, I immediately sensed how much they wanted to have me at Wolfsburg. That was very important to me,” Svanberg told the club’s website. “I have the best conditions here to develop as a player, and I believe I can help the team to be successful. I’ll give everything to ensure we win matches, so that we can perform as well as possible in the Bundesliga and also play in Europe again.”
Sporting director Marcel Schäfer added: “Despite being only 23-years-old, Mattias is already hugely experienced and very far along in his development. He’s a very willing runner and technically strong midfielder. We’re delighted that we’ve managed to bring a player of his calibre and potential to Wolfsburg.”
Svanberg comes as a replacement for Xaver Schlager, who joined RB Leipzig for €12m last month. The Swede is Wolfsburg’s sixth summer signing and brings experience despite his young age. The central-midfielder played 122 games across all competitions for Bologna since 2018.
