Official | Union Berlin announcing the signing of Alex Král on loan

Union Berlin have announced that they have completed the signing of former Schalke midfielder Alex Král on loan from Spartak Moscow.

On his move to Union, Král said: “The change to Union is an important step for me. Since I was already able to get to know the Bundesliga last season, it will certainly not be difficult for me to get used to it. Union’s development in recent years is incredible and very impressive. I am very much looking forward to the team and the entire club.”

Union managing director of sport Oliver Ruhnert also commented on the loan move: “With Alex Král, a regular player of the Czech national team comes to us, who will suit us well with his intensive playing style, his technical skills and his mentality and whom we are very much looking forward to.”

Král spent last season on loan at Schalke, playing 31 times for the Königsblau as the club suffered another relegation to the 2.Bundesliga. The move to Union will see the 25-year-old play Champions League football next season.

Borussia Mönchengladbach were also reportedly interested in Král but he has instead chosen to move to the capital and play European football next season. Král has also played for West Ham United spending the 2021-22 season on loan in the Premier League.

The Czech international has a contract at Spartak until 2024 so at the end of the upcoming season, he will be able to leave on a free transfer. Král’s time at Spartak has been cut short due to the Russian invasion and subsequent war on Ukraine.
