Official | Raphaël Guerreiro leaves Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphaël Guerreiro has announced on Instagram that he will leave the club when his contract expires.

On Instagram, Guerreiro said: “Liebe Bvb Fans,  After 7 amazing years, It’s time for me to say goodbye to you all with a lot of sadness. The memories I made here taught me a lot on myself on the pitch but also helped me a lot knowing what I really love in football. I have always been myself while learning and improving here and I will never forget the love I got from the fans and my teammates during these 7 years. I had the chance to play with some fantastic Players! These farewells are obviously the hardest of my career according to the thrill I took while playing in this Wonderful Stadium. Trust me, i will never forget the feeling to play for this club and defend BVB Colors! Thank you ! 🖤💛”

Guerreiro had reportedly turned down a 2-year contract extension from Dortmund to pursue a new challenge. It is currently unknown where the 29-year-old will go. Guerreiro joined Dortmund in 2016 for €12m from Lorient in France.

The left-back found a new lease of life in central midfield in the second half of the season putting in some of his best displays there. Guerreiro finishes the season as the top assister in the Bundesliga with 12 assists.

In Dortmund’s poor season finale against Mainz, Guerreiro scored Dortmund’s first goal in their 2-2 draw.

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s left-back Ramy Bensebaini is expected to replace Guerreiro at Dortmund as his contract expires at die Fohlen.

Guerreiro follows Mahmoud Dahoud as the other confirmed departure from Dortmund. It is also expected that Jude Bellingham will leave Dortmund for pastures new in the summer.
