Nottingham Forest manager Cooper excited by Gibbs-White potential

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is confident Morgan Gibbs-White is a step away from an England call.

The former Wolves attacker missed this week’s England squad selection.

But Cooper says: “It’s his story to tell, but I’ve been working with him for part of that England journey – knowing the amount of development games he’s played.

“He’s played at every age group and that’s what the development system is for, to try and get people into the senior team.

“I know he’d love to go and make the final step of doing that.

“There’s been a brilliant commitment to games and the delivering of performances.

“At times, they’ve been really eye-catching haven’t they.

“You just have to focus on that.

“But the best thing is that there is so much more to come, that’s the exciting bit. The England thing is for him to talk about – and Gareth (Southgate) as well.

“He’s definitely grown.

“You naturally improve through playing, that’s so important for young players – to get as many games as they can.

“Everyone finds their level, and that’s what he’s doing now, there are moments where he’s really excelled.

“What he’s done is added a real maturity to his game and an understanding of the defending side.

“Everyone knows the obvious strength in terms of his risk-taking and his wanting to do something with the ball – and he’s always worked hard.

“But he’s worked smart as well without the ball – he understands different tactical roles, that he maybe needs to do something a little different for the team.

“Then he has more success by doing what we want him to do.”
