Niklas Süle discusses his decision to join Borussia Dortmund, transfers, ambitions & more

In an interview with Borussia Dortmund’s official channels, new arrival Niklas Süle discussed how to win the hearts of fans, playing alongside Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck and his reasoning behind leaving Bayern Munich for BVB.

“When I talked to the club, I felt a real connection with the club’s ambitions, with what I’ve experienced in my career so far and what I still want to achieve,” said Süle. “The chance to achieve those goals with Borussia Dortmund was an incredibly exciting prospect and I can’t wait for next season.”

Süle played for Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich, two clubs disliked by BVB fans. When asked how to win the hearts of fans, the Germany international added: “I think the main way to do that is by playing well.

“People will see that I’m getting stuck in for the club club colours, and that’s definitely my goal and ideally by helping us to be incredibly successful which of course is the ambition for me and the club.”

Speaking about the signings of Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck, Süle added: “I’ve messaged both of them and I know them both well from the national team. They’re both fantastic guys and I get on well with them. They’re super talented and I think BVB have made some really great signings.”

The former Bayern Munich defender looks forward to playing for his new club: “The club’s ambitions are the same as mine. It was great to see that we have the same goal and that we want to achieve it together.

“I already know lots of the guys in this team and I know they’re great guys and players. Of course, this is kind of a chance in the squad and I know that we can achieve a lot.”

Süle further added: “I turn 27 this year and I’ve been a professional footballer for nine years so if I come to BVB and hide, I think people would have something to say about that. I want to play an important part in us having a good season next year and I want us to be as successful as possible.”
